The CSA

What is the Dry Creek Growers CSA?

The Dry Creek Growers CSA is a collaborative CSA from Whistlepig Farm & Black Fox Farm. As a collaborative CSA, we’re able to provide more variety to members and insure against crop failures and losses. Plus, you get to support two farms at once!

Why join a CSA?

In Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), members make an up-front commitment to support a local farm. In exchange, you receive a share of the harvest during the growing season.

The CSA model has important benefits for farmers. It provides early-season cash flow to buy the seeds and supplies we need for a productive growing season. CSA also builds relationships with the people who eat our food so we can better understand and meet consumers’ needs.

As a CSA member, you get ultra-fresh food grown to the highest standards — all right here in Boise. You’ll build a connection with where your food comes from, learn more about eating seasonally, and discover new vegetables and ways of cooking.

How does the CSA work?

Our CSA runs 20 weeks from mid-May to mid-October. You’ll pick up a produce box every week or every other week depending on your choice of membership. We take a two-week break in early July for fall planting.

Each share is approximately a $40 value and contains 7-12 items chosen by your farmers. The standard “recipe” for a CSA share is:

1-3 leafy greens + 1-2 root vegetables + 1-2 onion and/or garlic + 1 herb + 2-4 seasonal items

We grow a wide variety of vegetables and culinary herbs for the CSA. Rhubarb, blackberries, and currants are available seasonally. On occasion we include farm products like garlic powder, black garlic, and dried herbs and spices in the CSA.

Here are examples of past CSA boxes:

CSA Membership Options

We offer three membership options:

Full share members receive a box of produce every week for 20 weeks (May-October). Full shares are best for families of 3+ or veggie-loving couples.

Tip: Maximize CSA flexibility by splitting a full share with another household.

Half share members receive a box of produce every other week for 20 weeks (May-October). We recommend half shares for couples and singles.

Tip: Want a full share’s worth of vegetables but less frequent pickups? Purchase two half shares for $80 in produce every other week.

Summer only members receive a box of produce every week for 10 weeks (July-September). This is a great choice if you’re new to seasonal eating.*

Tip: Stock up for cookout season by adding a summer-only share onto your full or half share membership.

*Summer shares are limited based on available space in the CSA after full & half shares are sold

Egg subscriptions

We offer a limited number of egg subscriptions from Black Fox Farm’s pasture-raised chickens. Egg subscriptions sell out quickly, so act early if you want to enjoy farm-fresh eggs all season!
